ProtoKinetix’ Expands Its Family of AAGP Molecules

PROTOKINETIX INC.            (PKTX: OTCBB)
Vancouver, British Columbia, May 08, 2006

ProtoKinetix, Inc. (PKTX) is pleased to advise that the ongoing research conducted over the past several months has focused on the synthesis and testing of new molecules in the AAGP™ family. The research laboratory in Rouen, France has developed several new AAGP™ molecules which produced some very exciting results.

Of the new AAGP™ molecules developed, the one labelled GCD-5-A, demonstrated improved effectiveness over previously tested larger AAGP™ molecules. We have confirmed this very small molecule’s ability to protect cells using low concentrations. Using only 5mg/ml of the new GCD-5-A molecule, skin cells stressed with 2-hours of UV-C radiation were preserved to almost 100%viability for 6-days, while all the untreated cells were dead. This compares to 64% viability after 67-hours for skin cells protected with 15mg/ml of the original, larger AAGP™ monomer stressed with the same level of UV-C radiation.

Dr. John Todd, president and CEO of ProtoKinetix, reports today that the patent extensions have been filed to include this new dimension of the AAGP™ family of molecules. These extensions conclude the intellectual property of the family of Anti Aging Glyco Proteins (AAGP™) ranging from the very smallest single amino acid based molecule to the largest AAGP™ molecule that would have any practical application for cell preservation or medical applications.

In summary, the intellectual property held by ProtoKinetix’ exclusive world wide licence, includes every permutation and combination of glyco-peptides sized from 320-daltons through to 2.2-kilodaltons. The results of this ongoing research is important for ProtoKinetix as it has confirmed that there are several different molecules which have significant commercial value.

About ProtoKinetix:

ProtoKinetix Inc. is a Biotechnical Company dedicated to the development of a family of synthetic antifreeze glycoproteins (AAGP™) for human and veterinary medicine, the biotechnology and cosmetic industries, and as a food additive. Using previously published research on native antifreeze proteins and antifreeze glycoproteins as a guide, and coordinating a vast pool of world recognized intellectual talent in a networked environment, PKTX is conducting rapid and meaningful research with a view to developing markets for this very useful family of molecules.
