Anti-Aging Glycoprotein AAGP™ Protects and Repairs

PROTOKINETIX INC. (PKTX: OTCBB)
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, October 17, 2006

ProtoKinetix, Inc. is publishing a confidential letter from the lead scientists of ITTEC Stem, Inc. regarding their observations of additional properties of AAGP™. This letter reads as follows:

“A number of studies have clearly demonstrated the UV protective capacity of anti-aging glycoprotein AAGP. Indeed, under intense UV light exposures a survival advantage of between 20-40% has been repeatedly demonstrated in cell lines incubated with AAGP while being simultaneously exposed to UV light. Interestingly, the latest exposure experiments suggest that AAGP may not only be protecting cells from UV light but may also be acting at a molecular level to possibly induce repair of damaged cells.

Some of the most recent data includes 1) cell lines exposed to UV light in the presence of AAGP but with AAGP removed immediately following UV exposure and 2) cell lines exposed to UV light with AAGP only added after the UV exposure. In both situations, the cells incubated with AAGP had a survival advantage similar as if AAGP had been added throughout and after the UV exposures. In addition to these results, an additional set of experiments demonstrated how even after 8 days following UV exposure and without changing the media throughout those 8 days, the only cells that were still viable were those that had been exposed to AAGP at one time point or another. Note that not changing the media in this experiment was done purposely so as to maintain a consistent environment resembling significant cell death and acidosis. The fact that cells survived in the AAGP treated cells (even when treated only after UV exposure) and that viability was maintained even after the harsh cellular conditions suggests AAGP may be acting at the molecular level (as a signalling molecule) to protect and potentially repair cells or promote their survival. The therapeutic benefits of such a protection/repair mechanism could potentially be of marked use in cases of myocardial infarction and stroke amongst other pathologies.”
