Regenerative medicine has had a growing interest in health care, in the past several decades. This type of treatment focuses on engineering tissue to repair, restore and regenerate cells with its natural cell regeneration processes.

Still in the research stage, ProtoKinetix, is exploring cell regeneration through the use of anti-aging glycopeptide or AAGP®. These small, synthetic molecules are highly bio-available, meaning that they are easily absorbed and used throughout the body to regenerate cell structure.  

Increased Cell Viability and Functionality 

Recent studies done by ProtoKinetix show that AAGP® can protect cells from these stresses, and on average, cell survival increased by over 55%. In a laboratory, cells protected by AAGP® were tested by different environmental factors, such as temperature changes and radiation, which can be detrimental to cell growth.  

Temperature: To be viable a cell must be kept between 96.8°F and 98.6°F for optimal growth. 

Radiation: Cells with radiation greater than 500 mSv do not survive, yet lower doses of radiation can still harm the cell’s structure and DNA. 

Not only does AAGP® keep cells healthy, but it also ensures they work properly. To check this, scientists have used stem cell markers and CD34+ functionality tests, as well as live animal studies. In one experiment, diabetic mice received insulin-producing islet cells treated with AAGP®. After 40 days, this group of mice had 40% lower blood sugar levels, compared to mice that got islet cells without AAGP® first.
